Gender Economics: Behind the Scenes of Sexism

This post will be more of an informative article about gender economics. First we’ll start off with a brief meaning of gender economics. This phrase means statistics between genders. For example, percentages of women that receive a college education versus the percentage of men that receive a college education would go under the category of gender economics. This subject is actually a very fascinating study which shows a lot about our world, and can shed light on reasons why sexism still remains.

First we’ll start off with a study looking at what happens when women earn more than their male counterpart. About a third of women living with or married to a man contribute to a half, if not more, to the couple’s earnings, according to research done by Pew Research Center in 2017. However, 7 in ten adults told Pew that it was important for the man of the household to be the breadwinner. This research may correlate to a 2015 University of Chicago study that opposite sex couples in where the woman has a higher salary tend to have more relationship struggles as opposed to if the woman wasn’t the main source of income. It’s also shown that women who earn more money than their husbands tend to do more housework in order to appease their husbands and keep the relationship in balance. Based on these studies, you can see that our society hasn’t changed much in the last hundred years. It’s important to keep ourselves informed on this so we can help others understand that these ideals still remain, and have proof to back it up.

In conclusion, one should always be informed about social issues, because that is the first step to change. Always make sure you’re going on reliable sites so you don’t end up being misinformed.
